(A) UNIFY AND LINK

The Global Alliance comprises a network of member associations divided between Full Members and Associate Members. But the Global Alliance also has relationships with a wide range of Partner Associations and Institutes for contact and cooperation purposes.

The most important and representative PR professional associations in the World are in this community and more than 160,000 professionals are represented by the networks of these associations.

Sharing information and resources

Website

The new www.globalalliancepr.org website is our most important communication and collaboration resource. The new portal was built to allow each member society to have its own space and upload relevant information, files and contacts. Designated professionals from each member association are the editors of their own space inside the GA community.

The website will is also a database of resources like reports, studies and several types of papers, and supplies updated information produced by the Global Alliance and other sources.

One of the main attractors to the Website is the PR Landscapes, a series of business guides to explore the background for the practice of PR in different countries. The web portal is aimed also at other stakeholders providing useful information for members of the Global Public Relations Community.

The GA Broadcast represents a unique innovation and will allow us to bring several types of media contents to report in projects, activities or showcase important PR related programs.

E-Newsletter

The Global Alliance edits a bimonthly e-newsletter in which it reports about developments in its projects, showcases its members and their own initiatives and shares information about conferences and other events of interest. The GA Newsletter is aimed at the individual members of each member society and thus can be used to highlight the advantages of membership.

(B) PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

Ethics

Launched in 2003, the Global Protocol on Ethics is ratified by all incoming members of the Global Alliance. The Protocol resulted from an international benchmark analysis conducted by a team of experts who examined more than fifteen codes of ethics in use around the world. The aim is to increase professionalism and provide guiding references for the development of similar codes by member societies.

The Global Protocol advocates a role of education and a demonstration of ethical behaviour in the form of case studies and counsel for individual members of an association as a best practice.

Professional Credentials for individuals

The Global Alliance is developing a benchmark study about Professional Credentials for Individuals in which accreditation and other professional credential schemes are studied. This work follows from the Moscardi Report 2001 and 2005 which studied Accreditation schemes. The project aims to establish a common set of competencies that are being assessed in awarding professional/membership designations in public relations and communications among relevant GA members; and to support members/associate members of the Global Alliance in developing/or refining their respective accreditation or membership programs.

Curriculum Standards

In the field of education, the Global Alliance is promoting other benchmark studies on the curricula and body of knowledge of PR courses in different parts of the world.

The aim is to share this information widely and assess the feasibility of establishing a more global approach to the teaching of Public Relations, facilitating the role of interlocutor at the national level to our member societies around the world.

Further services are being developed targeted at sharing best practices in associations’ management to assist smaller associations grow and develop. Other services related with web-based telephone conferences are under development and will be offered to our members to allow the development of distance work and web- based learning.
