In addition we offer the post-graduate vocational CIPR Diploma and the Advanced Certificate courses in public relations, and approve PR courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level at universities throughout the UK.

Our aim is:

  • To raise standards within the profession through the promotion of best practice - including the production of best practice guides, case studies, training events and our continuous professional development scheme "Developing Excellence"

The Institute is dedicated to raising standards within the industry. All members sign up to an enforced Code of Conduct, signalling their commitment to operating ethically, with integrity and transparency. Support and advice is freely available to members, and there are also specialist and regional groups to provide opportunities for members to meet and exchange views and ideas.

Membership of the CIPR is on an individual, not corporate, basis. We offer membership to PR practitioners at all levels of their careers and in all sectors (eg consultancy, freelance, in-house, government).

There are six grades of membership (Fellow, Member, Associate, Affiliate, Global Affiliate, Affiliate Studying and Student) spanning different levels of experience and qualifications in PR. Membership assessment is rigorous and is based on educational qualifications and multi-disciplinary experience, ensuring high standards.

Membership figures have more than doubled in the last 10 years. Approximately 55% of our members are female - this has grown from only 20% in 1987. 45% of our members work in PR consultancy and 55% work in-house. Two thirds of CIPR members are based outside London.
