A close look on Future Influencers, Global Alliance COMM PRIX Awards 2013 winner of the Global Communications category
Siemens initiated the exclusive global online community “Future Influencers” to bring together tomorrow’s thought leaders and to foster relationships and a continuous dialogue with the brightest and most talented young movers and shakers. The community serves as an online think tank, where young high-potentials have the opportunity to collaborate on the most pressing sustainability challenges of our time.
The project started with one initial question: What do future thought leaders think about the key issues concerning sustainability and how can they collaborate to strengthen their impact? As a global company engaged in sustainability matters, Siemens is keen on finding answers to these issues.
As a result, the Future Influencers community was established. Via the online platform www.futureinfluencers.com, it offers users the opportunity to get in touch with people who want to actively change the world, and who want to make sure we find solutions to environmental problems. Future Influencers members contribute their opinions and ideas to the community. In return, they gain access to a network of likeminded and inspiring people, to global sustainability events, to stimulating content and have the chance to bring real projects to life.
The main goal of the Future Influencers community is to facilitate global conversations and the exchange of ideas, allowing Siemens to gain authentic insights and learn about differing perspectives.
What we do
Future Influencers members are under the age of 33 and are characterized by their exceptional engagement in the field of sustainability and their strong digital footprint.
In so-called collaborations, the Future Influencers discuss important sustainability topics (e.g. How to reduce CO2 emissions) and come up with ideas and concepts as to how to tackle those issues. The community is supported by its official partners, the Harvard Business Review and the World Resources Institute. Highly recognized experts on sustainability topics mentor the community’s members during the collaborations and actively take part in the discussions. Additionally, the Future Influencers have the opportunity to present their top idea and discuss it with current influencers during a panel discussion at the end of each collaboration, which is broadcasted live via an HBR-Webinar.
By now, the community touched base with more than 200 high profile Future Influencers. We have successfully completed five collaborations, developing over 90 ideas, resulting in three HBR-whitepapers and four HBR-webcasts at global sustainability events all around the world. The results of the collaborations provided Siemens with fresh thoughts and unique data.
In May 2013, the first Future Influencers live meeting took place at the Harvard Club in New York, with over 40 members in attendance. At this meeting, Teresa Collis, Head of Global Employer Marketing at Siemens AG, and the community members discussed what challenges companies have to tackle in order to become an employer of choice and win the “Race for Talent”.
Siemens is a global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics. The company has 362,000 employees (as of September 30, 2013) working to develop and manufacture products, design and install complex systems and projects, and tailor a wide range of services for individual requirements.
