Communication for sustainability:
World’s leading PR professional associations meet in Sao Paulo
Sustainability a key theme as Global Alliance concludes South American conference & AGM
1 May 2012, Lugano, Switzerland & Sao Paulo, Brazil – The role of communication in organizational sustainability was the key theme of the Global Alliance’s first South American regional conference, held immediately before the organization’s annual general meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil this past weekend.
Global Alliance delegates from around the world joined ABERJE, the Brazilian corporate communication association, for a day of dialogue on Brazilian, Latin American and global communication trends. Senior communicators from CPFL, Itau, Natura, Petrobras and other leading Brazil-based companies spoke alongside members of the Global Alliance board, with many presentations focusing on how commuication can help transform sustainability from a peripheral activity driven by external pressure to an imperative ‘embedded’ in the organization’s character and strategy.
At the Global Alliance AGM and Association Leaders’ Forum, leaders of public relations industry associations on every continent traded insights on common challenges. Delegates also adopted governance reforms that open up full voting membership to all associations that meet the GA’s criteria and endorse the Global Code of Ethics.
“As communication transforms our world, there’s a transformative opportunity for communicators to contribute to the sustainability of organizations everywhere,” said Global Alliance chair Daniel Tisch. “The Global Alliance is unique in enabling dialogue not only on international trends, but also on how to strengthen our global community of communicators.”
Global Alliance members will next meet face to face at the World Public Relations Forum in Melbourne, Australia, from November 18-20, 2012.
