Euprera 2012 Congress in Istanbul, “The changing profession of public relations”: full programme is available and registration is open

June 20, 2012

This year, Euprera’s annual congress will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, on September 20-22, with the theme “The changing profession of public relations”. In recent years, the public relations profession has undergone drastic changes. With increased demands and greater complexity, the meaning of public relations today along with its transformation and change as profession needs to be researched and analyzed.

The full programme of the congress is now available on the congress website and includes keynote speeches by Joachim Klewes and Philip Kitchen, four key panel sessions, almost 80 papers presented in parallel sessions and the PhD seminar.

The first keynote speech by Joachim Klewes will focus on “Challenges for strategic communication in Europe: Leading the change across cultures and regions”. Prof. Klewes is Honorary Professor at the Heinrich-Heine-University Duesseldorf, Institute of Social Sciences, chair of Communication and Media studies and Senior Partner at Ketchum Pleon.

The second keynote speech by Philip Kitchen will focus on “The Ever-Expanding Role of Public Relations”. Prof. Kitchen is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Brock University, UK. He is the founder and editor of the Journal of Marketing Communications, and serves on the advisory board or is a review board member for 10 academic journals ranging from Europe to the Asia-Pacific region.

The four panel sessions will be distributed in the three days of the congress. Three of them will be based on research projects: “Competencies and training needs of PR professionals across Europe” based on the Ecopsi project; “Professional Communicators in Europe. A Comparative Study on Self-Concepts of Journalists and PR Managers” based on the ProfCom project; “Pathways to the future: Learning from research into national and transnational dimensions of the contemporary profession”. The fourth panel session will be a debate on the change in the PR profession in Turkey.

In addition to the panels, 80 papers from 30 different countries, selected through the call for papers, will be presented in parallel sessions and will focus on several aspects of the changing profession of public relations.

PhD students are also invited to the PhD Seminar, which will take place as usual in the four days following the congress. The seminar provides an international setting where doctoral students in corporate communications and PR can present their ongoing work, get feedback from experts and peers and establish a valuable network for the future. The seminar will benefit from the impact of the congress and the main focus will be on participants’ work-in-progress. A few places are still available as well as a special fee including accommodation. To register, your abstract should be accepted (see details).

Registration to the congress is now open and participants are invited to register by July 20th, in order to benefit of the early bird fees. Register now!
