Evolving competencies in excellent corporate relations examined in Enel-Global Alliance International Partnership Study

Enel, a leading multinational energy company and a Global Alliance 2012 Partner, is supporting a GA international study of the rapidly evolving progress in advanced corporate external relations. The study is scheduled to be published and discussed at length at the World Public Relations Forum in Melbourne, November 18 – 20. 


The “Excellence in Corporate External Relations” study, now entering its final stage of development, will identify an array of communications competencies and initiatives that are in place or planned at leading global companies.


It has been specially designed to provide information to be applied by Enel as it continues to evolve its advanced stakeholder engagement programs as well as by the Global Alliance in its mission to advance the public relations and communication management profession.


 “The ‘Excellence’ project represents a significant precedent for The Global Alliance”, suggests Jean Valin, co-director of the study. “It will identify and share competencies and initiatives that support the increasingly-important role of communications in business success.” 


Project co-director John Paluszek adds that the study “will be of special value to a Global Alliance key audience – corporate communications professionals who are at, or seek to access, senior management levels.


The study report will document the communications experience and trajectory of nine multinational companies in a range of business sectors. The companies were selected largely on the basis of their highly-regarded reputations on international “favorability indexes” ranging from the Fortune Most Admired Companies to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Five of the companies participated in a detailed discussion and interview process. Four others presented information on individual highly effective corporate communications programs.


The discussion guide-interview exercise assessed the relevance of individuals’ core competencies as examined in the certification-accreditation programs of public relations professional societies around the world and, subsequently, competencies in a broad spectrum of the corporate communications practice..
