A Global Alliance Challenge for Public Relations:

October 21, 2009

Addressing the association's 13th Slovenian Public Relations Conference, Paluszek stressed that the "Global New Normal" -- basically new power-sharing relationships and a demand for transparency, collaboration and responsible policy and performance - is creating exciting new opportunities for public relations.

Among the mounting evidence of such seminal change, he suggested, are the evolution of the G-20 global economic cooperative, the forthcoming Copenhagen summit on climate change and the impending strengthening of the European Union. Also worthy of note in this regard, he said, are the awarding of the 2016 Olympic Games to Brazil (partly in recognition of its emergence as an economic power) and even the historic agreement between Turkey and Armenia to establish normal diplomatic relations.

"What the world needs now is more transparency," Paluszek contended, "Responsible organizational transparency. That is, more two-way communication based on responsible policy and performance as well as listening to changing expectations and demands and then responding collaboratively... public relations professionals are the best trained and most experienced counselors for achieving such transparency and progress."

The Global Alliance is a cooperative of public relations professional associations around the world implementing its mission to raise professional standards and advocate for the profession.
