Global Alliance Links With New International Reporting Organization

September 20, 2010

The mission of the new organization, the International Integrated Reporting Committee, is to "create a globally-accepted framework for accounting for sustainability ...brings together financial, environmental, social and governance information in a clear, concise, consistent and comparable format." Its members represent a broad spectrum of leading international organizations in the financial, accounting, academic, corporate and civil society sectors.

GA will provide communications input to the IIRC. The new relationship was facilitated by Mervyn King, IIRC deputy chair and chair of The Global Reporting Initiative, an IIRC founding organization, shortly after his address at the GA's Stockholm World Public Relations Forum in June.

GA chair John Paluszek calls the IIRC-GA relationship "another manifestation of the importance of communication counseling in international affairs and GA's ability to contribute in that space.

"In addition to fulfilling GA's primary mission of direct service to its member associations and their members", he explained, "we have a responsibility to illustrate how professional communication services can help multilateral institutions build understanding and cooperation. These are by no means mutually-exclusive responsibilities. In fact, because they are complementary, we suggest that GA member associations keep their members apprised of IIRC progress."

The Global Alliance also maintains relationships with multilateral organizations such as The United Nations, The World Bank and The World Economic Forum.
