Mauritian Public Relations puts Brands under the spotlight

One of the GA’s newest members, the Public Relations Association of the Republic of Mauritius, put brands under the spotlight with Myke Carroll at a special gathering for members and students of Mass Communication, Journalism and Advertiing at the Eastern Institute Integrated in Learning Management in the Mauritian landmark Ebène Cybercity.

 

“Why do most brands fail?” asked Myke Carroll at the beginning of his talk. He explored branding issues, where he explained that strong brands offer companies strong differentiation to compete in the market. “The strongest brands have personality instead of surprise. Brands that ignite emotions ignite business,” he told the audience among which PR and Communication practitioners were also present.

 

For Myke Carroll, former McCann Erickson CEO, one main cause for failure of brands lies in the conservative nature of organisations. Moving out of the cocoon is not easy for these businesses. The Cadbury gorilla example was a good way of showing how the basics of branding and advertising will definitely produce good results for a company. A fruitful exchange of questions followed his presentation, leaving students and teachers eager for more interaction.

 

PRCPA will next run an event on the importance of ethics within the Public Relations world. The Public Relations & Communication Professionals of the Republic of Mauritius was officially launched in November 2008. The vision of PRCPA is to play a prominent role in the promotion of public relations and communication in Mauritius with emphasis laid on professional ethics, training, international relations and nation building.

 

PRCPA has as patrons the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI); and the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA).
