Olympian Lord Coe KBE awarded CIPR President’s Medal at UK Excellence Awards for outstanding contribution to public relations
Lord Coe KBE, Olympic gold medallist and Chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, has been awarded the CIPR’s President’s Medal for his outstanding contribution to public relations surrounding the 2012 Olympic Games.
Emma Leech, University of Nottingham, was named the IoD and CIPR Public Relations Director of the Year – a joint award that recognises the vital role played by those who manage reputation.
Unity collected the award for ‘Outstanding Public Relations Consultancy’ and Lisa Gutcher of Liquid PR was named ‘Outstanding Young Communicator’ at this year’s CIPR Excellence Awards dinner – a night that celebrated the achievements of the public relations profession over the last 12 months.
salt PR picked up two trophies over the course of the evening. Both awards were for their ‘Lifebuoy: Global Handwashing Day’ campaign which reaped trophies in two distinct categories – Corporate Responsibility and Healthcare. Other key winners were the Royal College of Nursing which was crowned ‘Outstanding In-house Public Relations Team’ and Judge & Howard for ‘Outstanding Small Consultancy’. There were a total of 28 Excellence Award winners announced across a whole host of categories and the full list can be viewed on the CIPR website.
Winning a CIPR Excellence Award is the ultimate public relations accolade in the UK and the competition this year was fiercer than ever, producing some exceptionally high quality entries. The awards dinner, which took place at the London Hilton on Park Lane on 28 May, was a reminder of the contribution excellent public relations makes to business and growth. The event was attended by almost 800 public relations practitioners from across the profession and was hosted by CIPR President Sally Sykes. The evening was compered by British Olympic Silver Medallist Colin Jackson CBE and other VIPs from the world of sports and athletics included Sharron Davies MBE, Mark Foster and Adrian Moorhouse OBE.
