Solly Moeng inaugurated as the new president of the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) at the 2013 National Conference

July 30, 2013

Solly Moeng, PRISA President

Solly Moeng, currently Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at Woolworths, has been inaugurated as the new president of PRISA.

Specialising in holistic Brand Management and Strategic Marketing and Communications, Moeng’s career in the public relations and communication industry spans an impressive 18 years, during which he held numerous high profile positions in South Africa, Canada, the USA and France.

Born in Soweto, South Africa, Moeng holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing from IMM and attended courses at the respected Vega School of Branding. Fluent in French, Moeng completed his MA Degree in France. He is currently completing his PhD at the University of Cape Town (UCT), focussing on the nuclear industry’s integration of media in its crisis communications. He has also been awarded the prestigious Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation by PRISA.

Moeng gained vast local and international experience as Business Development & Marketing Manager for Mesure, a South African subsidiary of the French company, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Basil Read. Part of this time was spent in Bouygues’s impressive Head Quarters in St-Quentin-en-Yvelines, just outside Paris. In South Africa, he occupied Marketing and Communications Manager positions for CapeNature and for the South African Biodiversity Institute.

Moeng also served as Marketing Manager for South African Tourism in Canada, before being appointed to head the organisation’s operations in the USA where he managed the roll-out of South Africa’s Tourism Growth Strategy in the US and Canada.

He has also led teams of consultants to the successful completion of a number of projects for an impressive selection of clients, including the Eastern Cape Tourism Board; Metrorail; the South African Oil & Gas Alliance; the Hotel Formula 1 brand; Chevron South Africa (Pty) Ltd; Lesedi Nuclear Services and the Cape Winelands District Municipality. He is also the founder of DonValley Brand, Marketing and Communications.

Previously a highly-regarded columnist for the Cape Times newspaper, Moeng continues to write commissioned articles for a number of professional and business publications.

“Our newly elected board for 2013/2014 are driven by a shared desire to grow PRISA into its next phase,” comments Moeng. “Our action plan for 2013 includes increased engagement with student chapters; reaching out to professionals in provinces of South Africa that do not have PRISA Chapters; rebranding PRISA based on an organisational renewal project; and creating strategic partnerships by engaging practitioners in the region and in other parts of Africa, as well as collaborating with the Global Alliance and our counterparts within the BRICS formation.”
