U.N. Global Compact Presents Its New Emphasis On Company Sustainability Communications
May 4, 2011
Global Compact executives, corporate communications leaders and non-governmental-organization (NGO) representatives examined new developments in several sustainability communication channels including:
-
Progress being made toward integrating the valuation of sustainability commitments with traditional financial reporting (via the International Integrated Reporting Committee).
-
"Why Social Media is Changing CSR Reporting" (making it "more conversational").
-
"What Investors Want" in CSR/Sustainability reporting (evolving standards of "materiality").
-
New criteria for an advanced level of the Global Compact's "Communication Of Progress".
The Global Compact is composed of some 7,000 companies in 135 countries that have pledged to operate in accordance with ten Compact principles in environment, human rights, labor rights and anti-corruption. The Global Alliance is a registered United Nations NGO and a participant in the IIRC reporting process.
