AGM 2014 - Lugano

The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management held its 12th Annual General Meeting in Lugano on Sunday, June 22 2014, preceeded by a successful two-day Global Credentials and Accreditation Summit, where representatives of 14 countries discussed on the opportunity to define a global credentials scheme. 

 

During the meeting, Global Alliance Chair Anne Gregory presented the 2013 Annual Report providing an overview of the key activities and initiatives conducted by the Global Alliance in 2013/2014.

 

The Annual Meeting also saw the renewal of the term of some members and the election of a new representative on the board of directors, taking office July 1st 2014, Alejandra Brandolini from Argentina. Those who were elected onto the Board were:   
 

  • Delegate-at-large, Therese Manus, NCA (Norway) until June 30, 2016 
  • Delegate-at-large, Mateus Furlanetto, ABERJE (Brazil) until June 30, 2016 
  • Regional Delegate-at-large for Latin America, Alejandra Brandolini (Argentina) until June 30, 2015 
  • Regional Delegate-at-large for Oceania/Asia-Pacific, Jeffrey Naqvi (Australia) until June 30, 2015 
  • Regional Delegate-at-large for Africa, Adele Paulsen (South Africa) until June 30, 2015  

 

Other Global Alliance board members include leading practitioners, academics and industry association leaders.

 

On June 21-22 2014 the Global Alliance held a successful two-day Global Credentials and Accreditation Summit. Members and leaders of 19 national and international associations, including IABC, PRSA and CIPR, met to discuss in detail the current state of professional credentials worldwide, examining what might be an ideal state for both global and national credentials in the future.

 

According to Anne Gregory, Global Alliance Chair, "the time is now right for a global conversation that looks at our profession's body of skills, knowledge, attributes and behaviours, determines the common strands that apply to us all, but also allows for national or cultural adaptation." The Global Alliance has launched a new task force to explore how to involve employers in the process so that they recognise and understand agreed schemes and actively ask for people holding those credentials when recruiting.

 

The GA team will begin their initial investigations in the coming months, with a report back to the associations before the World Public Relations Forum in Madrid (21-23 September, 2014)
