ProCom is a co-operation organization, the purpose of which is to promote the professional development of its members and consolidate the position of communication in Finland.
The ethics applied in Finland are based on the Code of Athens and the Lisbon Statement. The Ethics in Finnish were updated in 2005 and they can be found on ProCom's web pages and in the Vuosikirja (annual member yearbook).
ProCom has currently 2100 members comprising information officers, communication mangers, directors, entrepreneurs and consultants.
The people seeking membership fill in a registration form. They are required to work within organizational communications or PR or within research or training. The membership is approved by the Board of Directors.
ProCom is the oldest communications association in Europe with roots going back to 1947. Its predecessors were Tiedotusmiehet (1947) and the Association of Finland's Employee Magazines (1955). They merged under the name Suomen Tiedottajien Liitto (StiL) in 1978. The Finnish Association of Communications Professionals, which is the current name is adopted in 2004.
In the past ProCom/ StiL has been a member of CERP.
ProCom has drafted and updates the Principles of organizational communications and ethics in Finland.
The Association founded its own training company in 2004, but it also works closely with universities and other communications trainings companies in Finland.
It organizes annually the main PR/ organizational communications event in Finland - ProCom Day and has for decades organized a competition of the best personnel magazine in Finland, which this year will be broadened to customer magazines as well.
