 Introducing

The World Public Relations Forum at Stockholm, June 14th -15th , 2010

...Your opportunity to help shape the future of public relations and communication management.

Yes, that is a very ambitious objective. But with your participation, it will be achieved by developing, in interactive mode, "The Stockholm Accords" -- a consensus plan for enhancing and affirming public relations\' growing importance in organizational success in the new "networked society."

At the Forum, final development of the "Accords" will be enriched by an array of program elements -- ranging from new "communicative organization" research and related case histories to keynote speakers offering global context and public relations experts presenting specific thinking on application of the "Accords".

For your early planning, here is the first outline WPRF Stockholm program*:

Sunday, June 13th

6 pm - 8 pm: Clarion Sign Hotel (Forum headquarters). Early-arrival reception, an opportunity to network and enjoy Swedish hospitality.

Monday, June 14
th

9 am: Registration

10 am: Official opening of the Forum: Welcome and Program Introduction

Part 1: The world as a network

In this new decade, organizations operate in a world interconnected in multiple directions and dimensions. This complex, "networked society", offering communicators an unprecedented leadership opportunity, will be examined by:

  • Sven Hamrefors, professor, Malardalen University (author of "Business Effective Communications").
  • Robin Teigland, research leader, Stockholm School of Economics.
  • Brian Solis, Principal, FutureWorks; analyst on the convergence of public relations, traditional media and social media.

Part 2: The organization in the networked world

The values of the "communicative organization" must be lived in constant dialogue within - as well as with customers, partners and other stakeholders.

Keynote Speaker:

Mervyn King, Chairman of the King Committee on stakeholder relations; former Supreme Court Justice of South Africa.

Discussion Leader:

Bjorn Edlund, Executive Vice President Communications, Royal Dutch Shell plc,

"Communications and the Sustainable Organization"

Tuesday, June 15th

Part 3: The Communicator

The responsibility of the communicator in the successful networked organization will be crucial and multi-faceted - as system builder, mediator, coach and influencer. This exciting leadership challenge will be addressed by:

  • Anne Gregory, Professor and Associate Dean, Leeds University (U.K.)
  • Ronel Rensburg, Vice President, Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa
  • Peje Emilsson, Chairman, Kreab Gavin Andersen (Sweden)

Part 4: The Way Forward: "The Stockholm Accords"

"The Stockholm Accords" will be "scale-able" - applicable at virtually every level the communicator\'s responsibility, from marketing to public diplomacy

 Keynote Speaker:

The Honorable Carl Bildt,

Foreign Minister of Sweden

"The Nation as a ‘Communicative Organization\' "

The Forum will conclude with an in-depth discussion of a final draft of the "Accords", including leaders of public relations national and international organizations presenting insights as to how their organizations will apply and promote the "Accords" in the coming years.

* Regular bulletins will update program development -- reporting on keynote speakers, related case histories and Forum news.

Developing "The Stockholm Accords"

Development - and application -- of "The Stockholm Accords" will actually occur before, during and after the Stockholm World Public Relations Forum.

In February and March, international public relations professionals will participate in virtual workshops to draft central elements of the "Accords" based on new "communicative organization" research including "Business Effective Communication." These draft elements will be available on the Global Alliance and Swedish Public Relations Association websites for comments, especially from Forum registered delegates.

A resulting framework for the "Accords" will be presented to delegates as an integrated part of the Forum. Facilitated discussions at delegate "round tables" will further develop the "Accords". A consensus final draft will be presented to the delegates during the Forum final session.

Delegates and their organizations will be urged to apply and promote the "Accords" in their respective venues in the months and years immediately ahead.

Stockholm Social Highlight

At 7 pm on the first evening of the Forum, Monday, June 14th, officials of the City of Stockholm will warmly welcome Forum delegates at a gala reception at Stockholm City Hall.

The charm of the city on an evening when the sun hardly settles, one of the most celebrated holidays in Sweden, will be further enhanced by the aura of celebration associated with the impending wedding, on June 19th, of Princess Victoria and her fiancé Daniel Westling.
