As a public relations professional now teaching the next generation(s) of PR pros, one not-so-simple challenge is always looking over my shoulder as I introduce my eager-to-learn audiences to my life’s passion...how to ensure that they know the razor-thin difference between “legal” and “ethical” decision-making and action.

Today is historic. The date itself is symbolic: 20/02/2020. Global Alliance, the umbrella body bringing together public relations professional bodies and professionals has adopted February 2020 as the month of global attention to issues of ethics in professional and personal conducts.

The Global Alliance is a proud member of the Commission on Public Relations Education. The Commission on Public Relations Education is the authoritative voice on public relations education. The GA has been on board since 2004 when I was Chair of the GA. Past chairs John Paluszek, Gregor Halff and I all have served on the Commission with John taking the honors of having served without interruption almost since the Commission was formed. Now that is a commitment! I had the honor of co-chairing the Commission a few years ago.

The Global Alliance call for nominations for its Executive Board issued on 7th January 2020 has been updated today, January 29th 2020. The position for Treasurer (1) for a one-year term to 30th June 2021 has been added and the deadline for submitting a completed nomination/application has been extended to 17:00hrs GMT on 28th February 2020.

This February, Global Alliance is leading a worldwide conversation that that will help raise the awareness of ethics in PR and communications.

Ethics are the necessary foundation for trust and reputation for all people, institutions and organizations. Responsibility, integrity, honesty, respect, fairness and transparency – these are some of the behaviors that underpin professional ethics and that guide communications professionals in our work.

The Academic Council of the European Institute of Communications unanimously voted to honour Justin Green, Ireland with the prestigious Carmel Hegarty Award. The award was presented to Justin at the Institute’s quarterly graduation ceremony which was held at their academic centre in Dublin.

As the Global Alliance enters its 20th year of service to the international public relations and communication management profession, we extend an open invitation to all our member organizations to nominate senior leaders to represent their membership organization by becoming a nomination candidate for Global Alliance Executive Board.

The public relations and communication management profession is now fully global and practitioners work across national boundaries regularly. Responding to this, the Global Alliance called for research which scoped the profession’s breadth and depth and which also identified the capabilities that professionals and teams should have when they perform at their best.
