Global Capabilities Framework: easy access for Associations

April’s Global Education and Training month provides a perfect opportunity to ask the basic question: what does a fully capable practitioner look like?

The Global Capability Framework is the Global Alliance’s benchmark for how professionals in public relations and communication management perform at their best. It applies to individuals and groups, such as communication departments, and the profession as a whole.

The Framework was specifically designed to meet the requirements of a profession which is now global, but where practice differs around the world because the context varies. Developing the framework took two years and involved research in every continent.

The eleven capabilities that were identified are grouped into three areas: the capabilities unique to public relations professionals because they are communication specialists; the contribution they make to their organisations; and the capabilities shared with other professionals and that demonstrate professionalism.

As part of the Global effort to celebrate and promote Education and Training, Global Alliance and the University of Huddersfield in the UK who led and coordinated the research worldwide, are making changes to the way the Framework and the software tools that bring it to life, are made available to Associations.

Access will be simple and through the GA website. There will be easy to use visual and hard copy guides on how to use the software and guidance on how associations can use the ‘resources’ section to steer their members to the best training sources – including their own of course. Look out for further information on this initiative from GA in April.
