Global Alliance AGM elects new President and Board

President Paulo Nassar, ABERJE Brazil awards Honorary Life Fellow Membership to Justin Green, Ireland and José Manuel Velasco, Spain.

The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management 17th Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 6 April in São Paulo, Brazil.

Global Alliance Chair José Manuel Velasco presented the 2018 Annual Report, providing an overview of the key activities and initiatives conducted by the Global Alliance in 2018.

Highlights and achievements in the past period included the rebalancing of the Global Alliance´s budget, a 55% increase in membership, an agreement with two global sponsors, the partnership with international associations (FEDEIA, EUPRERA and UNICEO),  a regional GA conference (in Bali, Indonesia, September 2017), an ethics summit of the PR industry (in Madrid, Spain February 2018), the 10th World Public Relations Forum (in Oslo, Norway April 2018), the launch of the Global Capabilities Framework (in Oslo, Norway April 2018) and the launch of the Global Principles of Ethical Practice in PR and Communications (August 2018).

The AGM agreed to a change in by-laws which included titles changed to President, President-Elect and Past President, instead of Chair, Chair-elect and Past-Chair.

A new President, Justin Green from PRII Ireland, and board of directors who will commence their appointments 1 July 2019 were elected by the AGM.

The incoming board includes leading professionals, academics and industry association leaders, with representation from every continent and it also has a perfect gender balance.

Jose Manuel Velasco congratulated Justin Green, (the first ever Irish person to be appointed to the Board and also to become President of Global Alliance) and the incoming board members on their appointments. He encouraged them to actively promote the association on a global scale and create value for national members.

“Now the Global Alliance is an inclusive organization, it is in a good financial condition, it has a clear vision about the development of the PR profession, and it has renewed its portfolio for the benefit of our members”, said Jose Manuel Velasco.

The incoming President, Justin Green, congratulated his predecessor, Jose Manuel Velasco, and all incoming board members and thanked and expressed his gratitude to the outgoing members of the board who would be finishing their terms.

Justin Green said the “Global Alliance is a family and as we say: Go Global, Be Global, join Global Alliance. We are truly a global, diverse and multicultural organization. Global Alliance congregates all religions, cultures, societies and races. Working together for the better of all, around our world.”

Outgoing board member are: Gregor Halff from IPRS - Institute of Public Relations Singapore (Singapore), Therese Manus from NCA - Norwegian Communication Association (Norway), Alex Malouf from MEPRA – Middle East Public Relations Association (UAE), Cecilia Schön-Jansson from SAC - Swedish Communication Association (Sweden) and Tina McCorkindale from IPR – Institute of Public Relations (USA).

The 2019 Annual Meeting was hosted in São Paulo by the Brazilian Association for Business Communication (Aberje). President Paulo Nassar, Diretor Presidente da Aberje presented José Manuel Velasco and Justin Green with Honorary Life Fellow Membership in recognition of the work they have led for the Global Alliance in recent times.
