Global Capability Framework update

Global Capability Framework update

The last few months have been challenging for us all. We’ve had to come to terms with a disease that has devastated families and communities. At the same time, changes at work have meant that public relations and communication has been put front and centre of the agenda for many organisations. How can the relationships with those who really matter be maintained when face to face is impossible? Who needs to be prioritised when everyone is a priority?

Chief executives have turned to their communication leaders for advice because it seems that in every aspect of organisational life communication is the glue that holds things together. This realisation that communication is at the heart of everything just re-enforces the findings of the Global Capability Framework which the Global Alliance launched two years ago.

It proposes that apart from the specific expertise that communication experts have, they also have a major role to play in the governance and decision-making in organisations. Never has this been more the case when people are looking to their employers, governments and civic leaders for direction and honesty during this most trying of times.

The Global Capability Framework outlines the huge scope and importance of public relations and communication management. It is available to all professionals, but Global Alliance member associations can also request exclusive access to the software that underpins the Framework. This allows their members, as individuals and as teams, to assess their capabilities and plot their future development needs into the future. All that is required is a simple request to the Global Alliance to access the software. Member associations can also link their own training courses and resources to the software and thereby serve their members better.

The latest association to take up the software is the Public Relations Society of America, who, at the Board meeting in July this year decided to make the software available to all their members. Work is now in progress to get that on stream, with Chief Executive Office Philip Bonaventura saying, “The board was not only impressed, they were excited about the possibilities the Global Capability Framework offers to our members”
