#EthicsMatter - Global Alliance endorses International Mobilization in Communication
President Justin Green has today confirmed that Global Alliance is now a signatory to the International Declaration of Communications Professionals and Researchers for a Healthier, Viable, Better World. Driven by communication specialists and researchers concerned by the global health emergency, the Declaration has been launched by Orbicom, the International network of UNESCO chairs in Communication.
The Declaration reaffirms the commitments the Global Alliance has already made during the pandemic. In March 2020 the Global Alliance issued a statement on the role of responsible communication to guide the profession in the direction set out in the Declaration. It also established a COVID-19 Task Force that announced additional support for the profession worldwide to ensure that its members were equipped to deliver the responsible communication it called for.
“February is our Global Alliance Ethics Month, when we ask the 300,000 practitioners in our member associations to focus on the critical importance of ethical conduct and communication. At a time of fear, misinformation and fake news, the role of professional communicators in ensuring honest, transparent and reliable information is absolutely at the fore” said President Green as he added his signature.
Launching the Declaration, ORBICOM’s Secretary General Professor Oumar Kane (picture above) declared that “In these uncertain times, communication must emerge as a force that can nourish hope, action and social resilience. It is clear to us that inaction and withdrawal have no place in the face of the emergencies of our time.”
The Declaration commits the Global Alliance and its member associations to:
- Calling for equal protection for all against the pandemic, regardless of race, origin, gender, group or status.
- Playing our full part in the transition to a sustainable future.
- Open, transparent and honest communications, free from fear and hatred, fostering a global, participatory, inclusive conversation.
- Honouring the power of active listening, lively and inclusive dialogue.
