 Africa Regional Council holds physical meeting in Lusaka, Zambia

 

The Africa Regional Council for Global Alliance held a physical meeting on May 15, 2023 in Lusaka, Zambia. The meeting, chaired by Peter Mutie discussed several areas of interest to the PR profession in the continent. In attendance was the Global Alliance President and CEO, Justin Green.

 

The meeting discussed among other items, the progress of PR in the continent. Recognized as best practice was the self-legislative framework for promoting PR in Zambia through an Act of Parliament. The Africa council urged other associations in the continent to emulate this best practice, noting that Kenya was in the final stages of formulating an act of parliament that will establish Kenya Institute of PR.

 

The Council also discussed various support mechanisms to strengthen country associations and help those countries yet to establish PR associations to do so. Further, the Council resolved to enhance communication in the continent for a broader uptake of Global Alliance services and benefits by PR practitioners in Africa.

 

In attendance during this meeting were Irene Lungu Chipili (President of Zambia Institute of PR and Communication – ZIPRC), Arik Kalani (President of Public Relations Society of Kenya – PRSK), Yomi Badejo Okusanya (President of APRA), Gloria Holme-Graves from Ghana, Henry Rugamba (Secretary General of APRA), Global Alliance President & CEO Justin Green and Global Alliance Board Member Peter Mutie.
