Global Alliance unveils first global DEI Policy Framework for the public relations and communication profession
The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management has launched the Global Diversity, Equality, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Policy Framework 2025, the first global initiative for DEI across the public relations and communication profession.
Developed through extensive consultation with members worldwide, the Framework provides a consistent standard of DEI knowledge and practice that is adaptable to national, cultural and legal contexts. The Framework is grounded in universal human rights and reflects the Alliance’s values of collaboration, professionalism, integrity, innovation and openness.
“At the heart of our profession is a commitment to act as ethical advisers and champions who serve responsibly and help shape a more equal, diverse and inclusive world. At this important inflection point of global ruptures, a global approach to strengthen and unify our profession, our communities and our countries is imperative for progress for all human beings,” said Prof. Justin Green, Global Alliance President and Chief Executive.
“Public relations and communication professionals play leading roles in communities, organisations and governments at every level. This Framework reinforces that responsibility and sets a benchmark for ensuring fairness, dignity and respect are embedded in practice everywhere,” said Prof Green.
The Global Alliance Board itself is a living reflection of this commitment. Comprised of leadership from across six continents, the Board and Regional Council Chairs represent a powerful cross-section of the public relations and communication world. Countries represented include Ireland, England, United States of America, Canada, France, Spain, China, Brazil, Malaysia, Finland, Indonesia, Kenya, Philippines, Zambia, Peru, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Australia, South Africa, Vietnam, Czech Republic and Turkey.
“Diversity is not just a policy; it is our foundation. The composition of our Board shows that this is not symbolic. It’s structural. The Global Alliance is led by a truly international cohort, ensuring every decision we make reflects the global nature of our profession and our shared future,” said Jennifer Muir, Chair of the Global Alliance DEI Advisory Committee.
“This Framework provides a practical approach for every member to either align with or adapt to their own circumstances. It recognises the leadership already being shown by many Global Alliance members globally and offers clear guidance for those beginning the journey. Our focus now is on accountability—supporting members with education and awareness, resources and training, and ensuring that DEI commitments translate into action and measurable outcomes across our profession.”
The Framework rests on five guiding principles: collaboration for inclusion; professionalism and credibility through equality and equity; integrity via accountability; innovation with intersectionality; and openness and dialogue for belonging. It is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Global Digital Compact.
To move from policy to practice, the Global Alliance will: establish a Global DEI Advisory Committee reporting regularly to the Board; identify a range of training and development opportunities; curate global evidence based resources; and measure progress with transparency.
Research underpinning the Framework highlights five benefits of DEI: stronger economies and fairer societies; greater creativity and innovation; improved talent attraction and retention; enhanced credibility and trust; and resilience and sustainability.
