European Communication Summit and InspiringPR Gather in Venice to Explore Ethics, AI, and Communication Trends
The historic setting of Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy became the epicenter of dialogue and innovation in the field of public relations and communication. The European Communication Summit “Technology, Trends & Communication Transformation”, promoted by the Global Alliance European Regional Council. Held at The Home of The Human Safety Net, the international summit explored how artificial intelligence and ethics are reshaping the future of communication.
A Packed Afternoon of Insight and Collaboration
The summit opened with welcome remarks from Filippo Nani, President of FERPI, and Prof. Justin Green, President & CEO of Global Alliance, who both highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration in tackling ethical challenges posed by emerging technologies.
Silvia Arto, Chair of the Global Alliance European Regional Council, presented an overview of the “Technology, Trends & Communication Transformation” initiative, followed by Vincenzo Manfredi, Scientific Director of FERPILab, and Prof. Alberto Bitonti of Università di Lugano, who shared perspectives on digital innovation and its implications for public affairs.
A session showcasing European case histories featured Mandy Pearse (UK), former CIPR President, on AI ethics as developed by the CIPR, Pavel Vlcek (Czech Republic), President of ASCOPA, on ESG, sustainability, and corporate responsibility communication in Central and Eastern Europe, and Simona Panseri (Google Southern Europe), on the role of platforms and ethical AI.
Shaping the Future: Guiding Principles for Ethical and Responsible Artificial Intelligence
The heart of the afternoon was an interactive workshop led by global facilitators Bonnie Caver (USA) and Adrian Cropley (Australia), during which participants collaborated to review and update the Guiding Principles for Ethical and Responsible Artificial Intelligence in communication.
The workshop culminated in a consent and draft of the Venice Pledge, a global commitment to the responsible and ethical use of AI in communication practices.
The summit concluded with a final remark by Biagio Oppi, Director of International Relations of FERPI, closing a day that will have a lasting impact on the global communication community.
InspiringPR Festival: It’s time to be ethical
InspiringPR, the festival promoted by FERPI – Federazione Relazioni Pubbliche Italiana, returned to Venice. Organized by FERPI Triveneto, the event stood out as a unique platform in the Italian communication landscape, gathering professionals from across the public and private sectors.
Under the festival theme “Good times, bad times. È tempo di essere etici” (“It’s time to be ethical”), the event emphasized the critical role of ethics in communication during these transformative times.
